I recently discovered an amazing app/website blocker called Stay Focused, and I'm a huge fan of it. Even though it wasn't free, I felt that the $7.5 lifetime fee was well worth it. Yes you read it right, Rs 600 for a freaking App just to prevent me using the phone. LoL, What days have come. Though, One of the things I love about this app is that it doesn't require accessibility permission to function, which is a major plus compared to other similar apps out there. I also use another app called Blocksite, which helps me block certain websites and redirect them to productive ones like Blinkist, Medium, or Investopedia. While it's still early days, I've already noticed a significant decrease in my phone usage over the past couple of days.
One of the standout features of Stay Focused is its strict blocking feature. It's so effective that I can't even uninstall the app, which can be a bit frustrating at times, but I appreciate the extra security measure. I do worry, however, about the potential risks to my phone's security and financial apps if something were to go wrong. It's interesting to note that another popular app, Alarmy, also requires the same permission to prevent uninstallation.
I find Stay Focused to be incredibly addictive, and it motivates me to spend more time on my learning apps like Duolingo, Varsity, Finshots, and podcasts, all while limiting my use of social media apps. People like Ankur Warikoo and Ali Abdal have always emphasized the importance of time-blocking, and while I used to rely on Android's built-in blocker, it was too limited in its functionality. I hope that they release their own app like Stay Focused that I can trust for security reasons.
In the end, I find that limiting my phone usage and restricting my screen time brings a sense of peace and helps me feel more productive.
