It Doesn't make any sense

  • It doesn’t make sense that teachers who haven’t accomplished anything in their life are teaching students.

  • It doesn’t make sense that teachers who don’t have any experience in the field they are teaching are teaching students.

  • It doesn’t make sense that teachers who don’t have any passion for teaching are teaching students.

  • It doesn’t make sense that teachers who don’t have any interest in the subject they are teaching are teaching students.

  • It doesn't make sense to give a prestigious job of a teacher to some lame ass man/woman who is dumbshit and all it cares about is MONEY. (Govt Job)*

*Where everyone fills their position as a teacher for a job security rather than providing education.

It Does Make Sense

  • It does make sense when a person who has accomplished something teaches the students as they have seen the highs and lows of the industry.

  • It does make sense when People like Ankur Warikoo, Rachna Ranede, Akshat Srivastav give financial literacy.

  • It does make sense when People like Tanay Pratap, Varun Mayya teach computer science.

  • And Many Others like them.

I was curious about how Khan Academy and Byju’s, two popular online learning platforms, differ in their funding and revenue sources. After some research, I found that Khan Academy makes money in three different ways. These include donations, test prep courses, and tuition at the Khan Lab School. Donations Khan Academy makes a large portion of their revenue from donations from philanthropists. While Khan Academy is a well-known charity, has a few independent sources of income, and also has a dedicated donor base who gives consistently, the nonprofit is at risk of large increases in expenses or downturns in donations.

Byju’s, on the other hand, has raised a total of $5.8B in funding over 27 rounds. Their latest funding was raised on Oct 27, 2022 from a Debt Financing round. Byju’s is funded by 58 investors. Aakash Educational Services and Qatar Investment Authority are the most recent investors.

Though it should be noted that companies like Byju’s sell dreams to Indian parents, on the ground, I really do not see any change around me for the poor children or parents who couldn’t afford their child’s education. Despite providing 100% scholarship to meritorious students, they are leaving out the other 90% of the population.

PS: Organizations like freecodecamp, exercism, Duolingo , Khan academy provide their content for free yet we flock to fill the wallets of the rich.
