I have often wondered why people pay for something when there is similar information available for free. It seems counterintuitive to pay for something that you can get for free, but there are several reasons why people do it.
I recently found about freecodecamp.org which teaches programming for FREE!
And Similarly there are 100s of Website and YouTube Videos which do the same job.
Still Why do we pay thousands -lakhs of money to Edtech Companies who make us believe that they are teaching something extraordinary that will change our lives.
Firstly, there is a perception that if something is free, it must not be valuable. People tend to associate value with price, and if something is priced high, they believe it must be of high quality.
Secondly, paying for something gives a sense of ownership and commitment.Which is valid for certain extent as I have noticed. The Value of ownership fades away because we outpast that thing and move on with something better and new.
As a personal example, I can relate to how I felt about wanting a premium membership on Netflix. I remember how excited I was to watch all the exciting shows and movies that were exclusive to the premium membership. However, once I finally subscribed, I found that it didn't matter to me as much as I thought it would.
Now, I find myself wanting to watch content from other platforms such as Apple TV+ or using a VPN to access shows from Europe and the US. This change in preference highlights the phenomenon of how our desires can shift once we obtain what we initially wanted.
I believe this change in preference can be attributed to the concept of novelty. As human beings, we tend to seek out new experiences and stimuli. Once we have exhausted the novelty of one experience, we may seek out new experiences to satisfy our desire for novelty.
Code Academy is a way better application than freecodecamp in terms of UI and Courses but it ain't free but the latter isn't bad just because it's free ,it's resourceful and begginer friendly with no price barrier.
Here's an edited version of the sentence:
I thought this was worth sharing.
The decision to rest is yours to make.
