Have you ever wondered why parents keep two names for their children? An official name and a nickname for use at home? It seems a bit weird, doesn't it? Why not just keep the nickname as the first name? As someone with a long and sometimes difficult-to-pronounce name, I can relate to this dilemma.
My name is Rajan Chauhan, which in Sanskrit means "Great king and Warrior." While I'm proud of its meaning, it can be a mouthful for some people. My nickname, Krish, is much easier to pronounce and has a sweet, subtle sound. It's a shortened version of Krishna, which is fitting since I was born during Janmashtami week.
The problem is that my friends and classmates have always known me as Rajan. It's the name the teacher calls out during attendance,
And wait a minute it's the name that's on my official website, www.rajanachauhan.net. As I want to get verified with a blue tick on social media, so I use the same handle everywhere with official name that can be troublesome if someone new finds out.
But I'm worried that people won't be able to connect with me if they can't remember my name.
So, I've decided that from college onwards, I'll introduce myself as Krish. ( No offense Mom-Dad ).It's a name that I love and feel comfortable with. I'll apologize later if people find out my real name, but for now, Krish it is.
What about you? Do you have a nickname or a name that you prefer to go by? Let me know in the comments.
Bye for now, and please call me Krish if we ever meet in person.
Hasta Luego :D
